Detention in in PE. . . Who'd have thought?

Bones (Not his real name), one of my blogfriend's (Is this the proper word?) sons received a detention in PE.

I'm a little curious as to the specific event that got him detention. I used to get into fights in PE, and as long as no one drew blood or had broken bones, the teacher turned a blind eye to it. It was an unspoken rule that no shots were made to the face. Maybe times have changed since I was in school.

However, I received more detentions and in-school suspensions at public school than I ever did at private for the same kind of behavior. My one suspension in private school was for going off by myself at Disney World during senior trip to hang out with a girl I had met there. I knew the rule, but figured it didn't apply since I was already 18. . .

In the Catholic school he went to, you could get detention at the drop of a hat. Talking too much and there it was. And boys could get detention far more easily than girls.

However, in the Public school, it's pretty much just fighting and nasty misbehavior. In Bones' case, he wasn't listening to the PE teacher. He was told to sit out for not being in his spot when he was supposed to be, and then he, being unable to control himself, got up and started to play basketball. (He's got to learn... I'm on the teachers' side.) So the teacher felt like he had to hammer home he was serious. He made his point. I think that Bones will be one of his better behaved kids now!

Yeah, that'd do it, too. From middle school on, I always tried to get on the teachers good side. They're a little more lenient. Which isn't to say I was a teacher's pet, though it can be a hard line to walk.

We went to Disney World for our senior trip, too. We were told that if we went to Pleasure Island, we wouldn't be allowed to graduate. Well, I ended up getting lost with a boy in my class, and guess where we accidentally went? But when our chaperone found out, we didn't get in trouble. To this day, I'm convinced the ONLY reason we didn't get in trouble is because I was with him, and I was about as innocent as innocent could be. Anyway, we didn't have detentions at my private school. We just had a demerit system with letters sent home and suspensions and expulsions based on how many points one received.
