Kindle

For Christmas, I received a Kindle Fire. I've mostly been skeptical about them, simply because I prefer actual physical books as opposed to electronic. This is partly due to the price, but mostly due to durability. If by some accident a Kindle comes into contact with a decent amount of liquid, you're pretty much SOL , whereas a book is still salvageable. For that matter, a book can fall 6 feet without taking damage (ie, cracked screen).

However, the Kindle is still a great device. I can carry an unlimited number of books between the device and the cloud service. If I tried that with physical books, I wouldn't be able to, as they'll start to take up too much room. Also in the Kindle's favor are free books. Yes, you have to sift through them, but there are some great books from independent authors, because E-books make it much easier to self publish.

I've also come across a few resources which can help you find these books and with your Kindle.

Pixel of Ink- I use this one the most. It's great for finding free books, as well as book deals. If you "like" their facebook page, they post the information on your news feed, and from there you can click the link and read about each book.

/r/Kindle- It's one of Reddit's subreddits, and it's a great resource for if you have a question about the Kindle.

eReaderIQ- I haven't tried this one yet, as I've just discovered it, but like Pixel of Ink, it's a resource for finding free books, as well as good deals on books for the Kindle.

xda Developers: Kindle Fire- It's a great subforum for troubleshooting issues with your Kindle, jailbreaking it, or finding accessories for it.

SOPA and PIPA

I'll be blacking out my blog tomorrow, in protest of SOPA and PIPA (Really just PIPA now, as SOPA was shelved).

If you're on blogger and wish to join the blackout, you can follow these instructions:

Blogger users:
Download a backup of your original Blogger template FIRST!!! If you do not do this, you will not be able to restore your blog.
Download the SOPA Blackout template from here.
Extract the .xml template file from the .zip file.
Upload the SOPA Blackout .xml template at 8am on Jan 18, 2012.
Upload the backup of your original template at 8pm on Jan 18, 2012.
This November, send donations to the competitors of those politicians who voted for SOPA.

As I'm not going to be up at the time, I'll be switching over at 12:01 AM tomorrow, rather than 8AM

The Maytag Repairman Just Got Really Busy

Due to risk of fire, Maytag has recalled 1.7 million dishwasher units. On the upside, at least he won't be bored at work and have to find other, non-Maytag things to repair any longer.

New If I Die App

Someone came up with a rather interesting idea, you record a video onto this Facebook app, and when you die, the video will be posted onto Facebook.
